The Magic Wand Project announces 2010 event sponsorship from the Marriott managed University of Maryland University College (“UMUC”) Conference Center and Inn where The Magic Wand Party will be held on April 25 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PR Log (Press Release)Apr 10, 2010 – The Magic Wand Project is proud to announce it has secured 2010 event sponsorship from the Marriott managed University of Maryland University College (“UMUC”) Conference Center and Inn. The Magic Wand Party will be held at UMUC on April 25 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.

Dara McBee, Senior Catering Manager for UMUC noted they were thrilled to be able to assist with The Magic Wand Project’s goals for 2010 and that it was a great carryover from their own Prom Angels Closet venture held two weeks ago.  ”We were so delighted to be able to help and are really excited this could become an annual event for us and The Magic Wand Project,” noted McBee.  Her administrative assistants asked if The Magic Wand Project might want to take the dresses left over from UMUC’s Prom Angels Closet event and share them with the students.  ”Absolutely!”

noted co-founder’s Diane Freeland and Kim Moss and they quickly added them to their existing inventory, which to date has swelled to over 350.  ”We couldn’t believe their generosity,” Moss said who went to collect the dresses and found to her surprise shoes and suits for the young men. “I had to keep from crying they were just beautiful, in so many colors and sizes. The students will be thrilled with these choices,” she said, and then further noted that the current climate controlled 5×5 storage space would be quickly outgrown and they were searching for an in-kind donor with climate controlled storage.

The event at UMUC will feature two dressing rooms, one for girls and one for boys, as well as the favors that The Project gives out to the students who attend.  Dress and tuxedo collection will also be taken at the UMUC event and ideally be cleaned prior to donation.  ”It helps us enormously when the items are previously dry cleaned,” said Freeland, “and to remember to donate items that are genuinely gently used.  We appreciate every donation we receive, but want to remind people the importance of the items looking as new as possible; we want to make sure the students get quality items.”

In today’s challenging economy, it is exceptionally difficult for families to balance expenses associated with high school activities and college preparation with everyday living expenses.  The Magic Wand Project endeavors to help high school students, who would most likely be unable to attend one of the most important and memorable events of their young lives.  The criteria simple; be a current junior or senior high school student, and be financially unable to afford appropriate attire to attend prom, homecoming, or other school related formal events.

Bridesmaid’s dresses that have been worn only once or even brand new with tags still attached, have delivered smiles and laughter, disbelief and surprise.  From its inception, The Magic Wand Project has paid it forward through their efforts of collecting dresses, accessories, and tuxedos and in return, experienced the warm embrace of young men, young women and parents whom they have never met.  Across the country, various other organizations are dedicated to providing formal gowns for young women, but the distinction for the Project is they focus on including donations for young men.  Almost immediately, charitable donations started coming in, not only from local donors, but also from as far away as Georgia and from organizations that include Zeta Phi Beta Sorority and Making Memories Breast Cancer Foundation.  This positive response demonstrated the widespread interest in such a worthy cause.

Additional donation drives for the 2010 prom season are being planned as well as Magic Wand parties.  At each party, students receive gifts and enjoy refreshments as they try on and select their prom attire.  At last year’s party, a deaf mother was brought to tears seeing her son select a tuxedo and her daughter expressed her thanks through hugs and smiles.  Currently, the Project assists high school students in Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia.  However, the goal is to become a nationwide resource for students who do not have an organization in their area.  Since the 2008 inception, over 350 new and gently used gowns, dresses, shoes and accessories have been collected for the Cinderella’s and tuxedos, suits, shoes and accessories have been collected for the Cinderfella’s.  Donations continue to be received throughout the year via donation drives hosted by the Project, website inquiries and word-of-mouth.

Rare Emu Egg by Talyala Emu Farm

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PR Log (Press Release)Aug 21, 2007Rare Emu Egg to be Auctioned on eBay

Something unusual happened at an emu farm in Keith, South Australia this week – Phil Rogers was out in the paddock going about one of his chores, collecting emu eggs to incubate, when he stumbled upon an unusual sight.  Phil found a double yoke Emu Egg that one of his female breeding emus had laid.  The emu egg weighs 850 grams and is 190mm long and 285mm in diameter.  A normal emu egg weighs about 500grams and is about 130mm long.  Talyala Emu Farm have been using EBay as a successful marketing tool for over a year now and intend to put this emu egg up for auction later on down the track. There is sure to be much interest in this unusual emu egg.

Phil & Chris Rogers have been in the Emu Farming Industry for over 15 years and have collected over 20,000 emu eggs during this time – and this is only the second time they have seen an Emu Egg like this!  Emus lay their eggs in Australia from about May through to October and a female generally lays one egg about every three days.   When laid emu eggs are green in colour varying from lighter green to very dark green.  The shell of an emu egg has 7 different layers of colour ranging from the dark green outside layer through to the last layer which is white.  The layers in between are shades of lighter green.  This is what enables the egg to be carved.  They are also used by thousands of egg decorators throughout the world, where the crafts people make jewellery boxes, clocks and all manner of art pieces with the shell.  Some clever people also like to paint the emu eggs, particularly with Australian scenes or animals on them.

The Emu is the second largest flightless bird in the world and is related to the ostrich, rhea, cassowary and kiwis.  The emu is native to Australia and is a protected species but it is allowed to be farmed under strict licence laws.  Emus are also farmed in other parts of the world, mainly USA but Australia has a bit of an advantage because they started out with a much wider genetic pool of emus than would ever have been available overseas.  This is because it is illegal to export either live emus or full emu eggs (which could be fertile) out of Australia.  Most of the emus that the overseas farms have as breeding stock were probably from zoos or wildlife parks.  Years ago they were able to export to these places after meeting rigorous guidelines.

Emu farming is a very lucrative business for those who have taken the time to market their product.  Phil and Chris have been doing this through the larger tourist markets around Australia and over the years they have attended many shows, field days and trade fairs.  Emus are processed at between 12-18 months of age and the farmer gets many products from one bird – about 15kg of meat, 5-7 litres of Emu Oil, emu feathers, emu eggs, body leather and leg leather.  The meat is a dark red meat with a slight gamey taste and is used mainly by restaurants.  Emu Oil is mainly known for its anti-inflammatory properties and helping people with arthritis, muscle aches and joint pain, eczema, psoriasis and many other health complaints.  The emu feathers are used mainly for decoration and by the clothing & hat making industries.  Another by-product of the emu is the body leather and leg leather – these items are used to make a range of items including wallets, purses, belts, leather jackets, handbags, shoes and boots.

Unfortunately like any new industry, the Emu industry here in Australia and overseas, has had its ups and downs.  In the early days there would have been approximately 1500 licenced emu farms in Australia, now there would be lucky to be 50.  This is creating a bit of a supply and demand problem, especially as more and more people are getting to know the benefits of emu oil.  The Rogers’ can sell all they produce and believe it will be a couple of years before there will be more plentiful stocks of some of the products.

Jesus Christ's Face

What Do Muslims Believe about Jesus?

Muslims respect and revere Jesus (peace be upon him). They consider him one of the greatest of God’s messengers to mankind. The Quran confirms his virgin birth, and a chapter of the Quran is entitled ‘Maryam’ (Mary). The Quran describes the birth of Jesus as follows:

(Remember) when the angels said, “O Mary, God gives you good news of a word from Him (God), whose name is the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, revered in this world and the Hereafter, and one of those brought near (to God). He will speak to the people from his cradle and as a man, and he is of the righteous.” She said, “My Lord, how can I have a child when no mortal has touched me?” He said, “So (it will be). God creates what He wills. If He decrees a thing, He says to it only, ‘Be!’ and it is.” (Quran, 3:45-47)

Jesus was born miraculously by the command of God, the same command that had brought Adam into being with neither a father nor a mother. God has said:

The case of Jesus with God is like the case of Adam. He created him from dust, and then He said to him, “Be!” and he came into being. (Quran, 3:59)

During his prophetic mission, Jesus performed many miracles. God tells us that Jesus said:

“I have come to you with a sign from your Lord. I make for you the shape of a bird out of clay, I breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by God’s permission. I heal the blind from birth and the leper. And I bring the dead to life by God’s permission. And I tell you what you eat and what you store in your houses….” (Quran, 3:49)

Muslims believe that Jesus was not crucified. It was the plan of Jesus’ enemies to crucify him, but God saved him and raised him up to Him. And the likeness of Jesus was put over another man. Jesus’ enemies took this man and crucified him, thinking that he was Jesus. God has said:

…They said, “We killed the Messiah Jesus, son of Mary, the messenger of God.” They did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but the likeness of him was put on another man (and they killed that man)… (Quran, 4:157)

Neither Muhammad nor Jesus came to change the basic doctrine of the belief in one God, brought by earlier prophets, but rather to confirm and renew it.

Jesus is a Servant of God

It will be quickly obvious that they often referred to him as a servant of God, but never Son of God. Peter, for example, said:

“The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus” (Acts 3:13).

Peter further said:

“God raised up his servant” (Acts 3:26), where the title servant refers to Jesus.

Not only Peter, but the entire group of believers viewed Jesus as God’s servant. When they raised their voices together in prayer to God, in the course of their speaking to God they called Jesus “your holy servant Jesus whom you anointed” (Acts 4:27). They repeated this title also in verse 30. Consistently, Jesus was being called servant of God by the original followers of Jesus.

Some people mistakenly thought that the disciples called Jesus Son of God. An inconsistency of translation actually helped to give this wrong impression. In the King James Bible, the translators call Jesus “Son of God” in Acts 3:13, 26, and “child of God” in Acts 4:27. They simply translated the Greek word paida as “son” or “child”. But the word paida also means “servant”, and the present context demands this translation since the author of Acts is trying in this passage to establish that Jesus is indeed the servant of God.

The translators knew that the Greek word paida means servant. When the same word was used for David in chapter 4, verse 25, they translated it “servant”. Why not call Jesus also by the same title? Or, if they feel that “son” is the correct translation, why not also call David “Son of God”? Jesus and David are both called by the same title in Greek. Why not call them by a same title in English also?

Other translators recognized this inconsistency and corrected it in the modern translations of the Bible. Therefore the New International Version of the Bible and many others call Jesus Servant of God in the verses already quoted above. Nevertheless, the fact that Jesus was God’s servant was so well known that even the King James Bible called him by this title in Matthew 12:18. Referring back to Isaiah 42:1, Matthew identified Jesus as the servant of the one true God Yahweh.

In the next part, we will see how the eagerness in some people to call Jesus “Son of God” led them to invent explanations that indirectly insult God.

The Messiah, Jesus Son of Mary

“O People of the Scripture! Do not exaggerate in your religion, and do not say anything concerning Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus son of Mary, was only a messenger of Allah, and His word which He conveyed unto Mary, and a spirit from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers . . . ” (Qur’an 4:171; see also 66:12).

In the above passage Jesus in called by four noble titles. He is the Messiah, the Messenger of Allah, a Word from Allah, and a Spirit from Allah. In the same passage, it is clear that the Qur’an seeks to discourage exaggeration in religion. Further in the same passage, Allah says:

“Allah is only One God. Far is it removed from His transcendent majesty that He should have a son. His is all that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth. And Allah is sufficient as Defender” (Qur’”an 4:171).

Refusing to call Jesus son of God is not done with a view to belittle Jesus. No! On the contrary, it is done to Glorify God, to magnify His name, and to proclaim His transcendent majesty.

The Qur’”an confirms that Jesus was born of a virgin. When the angel announced to Mary, on whom be peace, that she will bear a child, she said:

“My Lord! How can I have a child when no mortal has touched me”

She received the following reply:

“So (it will be). Allah creates what He will. If He decrees a thing, He says unto it only: Be! and it is. (Qur’”an 3: 45, 47).

In another surah, after relating the incidents surrounding the birth of the Messiah, the Qur’”an concludes as follows:

“It befits not (the majesty of) Allah that He should take unto Himself a son. Glory be to Him! When he decrees a thing, He says unto it only: Be! and it is.”" (Qur’an 19:35).

The Qur’an seeks to correct a common misconception in the minds of people. Many assume that since Jesus had no father then God must be his father.

Glory be to Allah. He does not father children. He created everyone we know from a man and a woman. But He created Adam from neither a man nor a woman. And He created Eve from a man, but not from a woman. Then, as if to complete the picture, God created Jesus from a woman but not from a man. God has demonstrated His power to create in every way.

Allah says:

“Lo! the likeness of Jesus with Allah is as the likeness of Adam. He created him from dust, then he said unto him: Be! and he is” (3:59).

It is important to realise that Jesus, on whom be peace, never taught that he is the Son of God. Allah says that those who call Jesus “Son of God” are following the saying of other people (see surah 9:30). Jesus taught only what he was commanded (5:117). He himself was quite pleased with being a servant of Allah (4:172). As a messenger of Allah, Jesus knew that none in the heavens or the earth can approach Allah except as a slave (19:93).
Finally, those who say that God has a son should know that they have no warrant for this, but they are saying something without knowledge (10:68).

In the next part, God willing, we will see from a careful study of the Bible that Jesus never called himself God’s son.
